Subaru Forester SUV is a family favourite

The Subaru Forester SUV

Looking for an SUV to suit your family but also enable you to head out on adventures with no compromises? Subaru have you covered.

Our popular Subaru SUV range has three models varying in size, with the middle sibling - the Forester - a firm favourite with families.

The Subaru Forester has been part of the Subaru line up for decades, and not only does it tick the safety and capabilities credentials, but it’s the SUV that’s built for families too.

Check out why so many families love our award-winning Subaru Forester SUV.

Family-sized comfort

First up on its tick list, is Forester’s family-friendly interior. Space, space and more space. This vehicle was built for families and those who need to pack everything for a road trip, including the dog! There’s ample room inside as well as wider door openings, better backseat access and even room for three slim-line car seats across the back.

The shorter members of your tribe will get a leg-up courtesy of the step panel – designed to help kids hop into the back seats easily.

There is also plenty of storage, with two-tiered rear pockets to store books, iPads and snacks, as well as cupholders in every door, the centre console and in the arm rest that pulls out of the centre seat in the rear. To keep the rear passengers connected, there is also power outputs in the rear to ensure all technology is charged and ready to entertain.

Perfect for off-road and drop-offs

With the highest ground clearance in the Subaru clan of 220mm, Forester is your capable companion for accessing backcountry vacation spots. Add in Subaru’s engineering superpower Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive (AWD), which comes standard in every Subaru, and you are ahead of the game in terms of turning wheels that slip into wheels that grip.

All-Wheel Drive (AWD) gives your brood the capability to go off roading on the weekend, while also keeping them safe on wet, slippery roads on a rainy, weekday school run (check out how AWD works here).

Families heading anywhere off the beaten track will love Forester’s improved X-Mode. Simply twist the dial to activate this handy feature and your Forester knows you mean business. X-Mode works by controlling the engine output, transmission, torque split and braking system to compliment the All-Wheel Drive system and handle the trickiest situations. In simple terms, X-Mode is your friend when the going gets muddy, snowy or just plain slippery!

The Forester X Sport, Premium and e-Boxer Hybrid Premium variants feature the deep snow and deep mud X-Mode functionality if your adventures tip towards the more gnarly side of the scale.

Ready to accessorise

Forester’s toy carrying game is easily upped with our range of Subaru accessories. Whatever your sport (or sports) of choice might be, there is a rack, carrier, or set of bars available to transport your kayak/bike/skis. Or if all the space inside the Forester isn’t quite enough, you can add a roof box for a bit of extra storage on your road trips, or to keep the skis all in one place.

Technology that puts your family first

The Forester is no stranger to top-notch tech and features the Driver Monitoring System (DMS), our class-leading safety technology that uses facial recognition to identify the driver. A quick facial scan as you enter the driver’s seat allows the DMS to adjust to your personal cabin preferences including seat position and wing mirrors, and monitors distractions while driving.

Subaru Driver Monitoring System recognises drivers and detects distractions.

Our award-winning EyeSight® technology is another safety win and it functions like an extra pair of eyes on the road ahead and is standard in Forester. When you hit the adaptive cruise control function, EyeSight® maintains the speed set by the driver, but also regulates the vehicle's speed to maintain a set distance from the car in front. It adjusts when the car in front slows down or speeds up to the set speed again, which makes long drives much more relaxing.

It’s no wonder the Forester won the 2018 New Zealand Car of the Year and 2022 NZ4WD Media SUV of the year (along with a cabinet full of other awards). You can also tread a little lighter with the new e-Boxer Hybrid Forester models available in the Forester line up. They are built from Subaru DNA and include a compact battery and electric motor to assist the petrol engine.

The Forester range starts from $47,990 and includes: Forester, Forester X Sport and Forester Premium and e-Boxer Hybrid options of Forester and Premium models.

For a limited time, you can also save $5,000 when you purchase a Subaru Forester X Sport or Forester Premium, so now’s the time to get behind the wheel of your very own Subaru Forester and become part of the Subaru family, with your family!
