Rediscover the fun in your relationship on a weekend away with Subaru’s Date Box Challenge.
We all know life gets a bit busy, it happens. But when it does, it can feel like your relationship ends up taking a back seat and all you seem to talk about is who’s turn it is to take the rubbish out or what’s on the menu for dinner.
But spending time with each other and sharing new experiences together can help couples to feel connected.
Organising a weekend away together is the perfect way to reintroduce the romance. We want you rediscover the fun and of a weekend road trip, and rediscover your partner in the process. So we’ve created The Subaru Date Box Challenge for Kiwi couples to use to help energise them on a well-deserved weekend away. Our friends Matilda and Art Green packed up their Subaru Forester and headed out on a road trip to take on the Subaru Date Box Challenge.
You can recreate your own Date Box Challenge with our top 5 ideas here:
1. Picnic for two
Is it even a weekend away if you don’t have a picnic? Start off by heading to a farmers' market together to buy your fresh picnic basket treats. Make it fun by agreeing that you will each try something that you haven’t eaten before. If you want to take it to the next level, get up at dawn so you can enjoy a picnic at sunrise to watch the world wake up and take in the glorious views.
2. Make your day trip a road trip
Challenge each other to take turns organising a day trip on the road together. The planner gets to include all their favourite things, like their favourite food, music for the playlists and their favourite activities. This is a perfect way to learn more about your partner and for them to learn more about you.
Once you get to wherever you are headed, make sure you take the time to explore the area together.
3. Find a fun new event
There is always something happening around you or close enough for a day trip. Go searching through event websites or Facebook pages to check what new art trails or festivals are happening around you. If you’re staying somewhere new, try an event that you wouldn’t normally attend if you were at home.
4. Forget the fear factor!
Doing something new that scares you a bit is a great way to come together as a team and try an activity that scares you both a little. Maybe it’s a high ropes course, road tripping to go white water rafting or overcoming a fear of heights by going zip-lining in New Zealand’s beautiful backyard. By getting out of your comfort zone you can give yourselves something new to bond over.
5. Turn back time
If you’re a serious romantic, try turning back time and recreating your first date together. Wear the same clothes, play the same songs, return to the same location… it’s a perfect way to spend an anniversary remembering where it all began.
Unwind at home with a bonus tip:
If you don’t have the time to head away for a getaway, create your own getaway at home. Slow down and purposely plan a chore-free weekend to catch up on your favourite leisure activity. It doesn’t have to be the same one, but spending time resting together doing something you love can sometimes be just want you both needed.
