All-time record for Subaru in New Zealand

Subaru Outback continues to shine, with unprecedented growth in the large SUV segment, holding a 11.5% share against it’s competitive set year-to-date.

Subaru of NZ and their Authorised Dealer Network have achieved yet another record sales result – the highest ever half-year tally in history.

Year-to-date (YTD) has seen 1344 Subaru sales versus 2015’s YTD sales of 1104, which adds up to a significant 22% increase year-on-year.

Subaru of New Zealand is on a roll with growth momentum continuing strongly into 2016. Last year resulted in 25% growth versus 2014, which was a record result at the time. If the mid-year results are any indication, the result is on track to surpass 2015’s growth by the end of December.

Subaru are overachieving against the overall industry growth which is 5.3% YTD vs. 2015.

Outback continues to shine, with unprecedented growth in the large SUV segment, holding a 11.5% share against it’s competitive set year-to-date. With 687 Outback models sold YTD it is 27% ahead of 2015 sales.

The total SUV market has increased by 10.7% YTD. Subaru’s SUV line up includes the XV Crossover, Forester and Outback, with the growth of these models increasing by 21.5% year-on-year.

Subaru of New Zealand’s Managing Director Wallis Dumper says Outback has really captured the essence of what a great Kiwi SUV should be.

“We have been thrilled with how well Outback has been selling and can credit its combination of plush passenger vehicle comforts, with its off-road capabilities, for ensuring this new generation Outback is a winner for New Zealanders’ lifestyles.”

“Outback has also managed to balance style with space. It looks fantastic but its practicality means there is plenty of room to load it up with all your favourite sporting kit or holiday essentials. Available from just $44,990, Outback is an affordable option for Kiwis, who value Subaru’s quintessential All Wheel Drive, which helps keep them safe on our roads and for their off-road adventures too,” Mr Dumper says.

While Outback is the star performer, the Subaru model range goes from strength to strength, with Legacy holding the lead supporting role.

By June, the new geneneration Legacy sedan has nearly outsold its total 2015 sales, with a staggering 190% increase year-on-year, with over 100 of the large Legacy sedans sold in New Zealand YTD.

The vast majority of other Subaru All Wheel Drive models in the range are ahead of the previous year’s sales, which has had a positive contribution to the overall growth.

Mr Dumper says Subaru continues to grow its fan base.

“From families, to performance car enthusiasts and SUV fans, our Subaru vehicles offer an incredible blend of durability, flexibility, fun, safety and retained value,” he says.

The recently launched all-new sports performance wagon, the Subaru Levorg, will fill a gap in the Subaru line-up for those who want performance and practicality, thanks to the 2.0 litre Direct Injection Turbocharged Boxer engine. The stylish and spacious wagon will appeal to previous Legacy GT or even WRX hatch owners – which are no longer available to buy NZ-new.

The Levorg will be on sale from next week in Subaru Authorised Dealerships, which will no doubt continue to have a positive impact on Subaru’s overall performance in 2016 - attracting those looking for a spirited, driver’s wagon.

Market share of Subaru YTD has also expanded and is now 1.9% of the total industry volume, versus 1.7% in 2015.
