Subaru has continued celebrating 25 years of its iconic performance model in New Zealand by producing something rare, dark and damn good-looking.
Please let us introduce the sleek, stylish Black Edition WRX. It is based on a WRX Premium SLT but because it is limited to a production run of only five cars, the Black Edition is set to become a collector’s item.
Equipped with the exhilarating power of the Subaru WRX’s 2.0 litre Boxer engine and the superior handling of Symmetrical All Wheel Drive, the Black Edition has received a few extra birthday presents. Its features over and above the WRX Premium specification of Harman Kardon audio, leather upholstery, rain-sensing wipers, sat nav, push button start with keyless entry and touchscreen infotainment are:
- Carbon fibre-style features on the roof, door mirrors, rear spoiler and lower part of front grille.
- Black WRX badges on the front guards.
- Black WRX and Symmetrical AWD badges on the rear boot.
- Black STi 18” alloy wheels.
- Tinted front windows.
This added value package is worth over $5000, yet despite the WRX Premium RRP being set at $54,990, the Black Edition will go on sale at RRP $57,490. Two Black Edition WRXs will go on sale at Subaru authorised dealerships this month in Auckland, while Hamilton, Wellington and Christchurch will all receive one each.
Subaru of New Zealand Managing Director Wallis Dumper says the Black Edition is another advancement in a long line of memorable WRX models.
“In 1992, Subaru launched the iconic WRX model and since then we've won several World Rally Championships (WRC), including three consecutive WRC Manufacturer’s titles (1995-1997). We were part of the WRC for 19 years – and while we were winning championships, we were also fine-tuning our unique technologies to make each WRX better than the last. The latest generation five WRX is now a much more sophisticated driver’s car. This sharp-looking Black Edition celebrates both the WRX’s heritage and also its new direction as a refined, classy, performance car,” Mr Dumper says.
