Limited-edition Subaru SAIGO WRX represents the end of an era

Kiwi WRX enthusiasts are in for an extremely special treat with the limited-edition Subaru SAIGO WRX arriving in New Zealand this month.

Kiwi WRX enthusiasts are in for an extremely special treat with the limited-edition Subaru SAIGO WRX arriving in New Zealand this month.

This version of Subaru’s much-loved performance model takes its name from the Japanese word saigo – which translates as the last.  Adding to its allure as the last special edition version of the WRX in this current generation, is the fact that only 18 New Zealanders will become the proud owners of a SAIGO WRX.

The 2020 SAIGO strikes an imposing stance, featuring black exterior accents, 18” STI wheels, suede interior trim and red Brembo brakes for the manual version, which are all over and above the Subaru WRX base model. The SAIGO also adds Harman Kardon audio.

Subaru of New Zealand’s Managing Director Wallis Dumper says the Subaru SAIGO WRX is “an exceptionally limited, limited-edition collector’s car!”

“While our current generation WRX will continue to be on sale until late next year, the SAIGO represents the end of an era. Its name was coined through discussions with Subaru Corporation, in Japan, regarding this model literally being the last limited edition WRX.”

“With finite numbers hitting our shores, customers will have to be in quick to purchase one of the 18 limited-edition SAIGO WRXs. We have already pre-sold some of our allocation and the initial feedback from our Subaru Authorised Centres nationwide suggests that we may have underestimated its popularity. However, we could only secure 18 from the factory and once they are gone, they are gone!” Mr Dumper says.

The 18 SAIGO WRXs will be on sale for only $55,990 RRP and available for pure driving pleasure in either an 8-speed Subaru Lineartronic Transmission with paddle shift, or with a 6-speed manual transmission.

Powered by a 2.0 litre direct injection turbocharged Boxer engine, the SAIGO produces 197kW@5600rpm and has a maximum torque of 350Nm@2400-5200rpm.

The selected colour range includes Crystal White Pearl, WR Blue Pearl, Crystal Black Silica and Magnetite Grey.

Like all New Zealand-new Subarus, the SAIGO features the Kiwi adventure brand’s engineering prowess All-Wheel Drive as standard and this limited-edition model has a 5-Star ANCAP safety rating.

The limited-edition Subaru SAIGO WRX features*:

  • Recaro seats with STI logo
  • Suede interior trim with red accents
  • Suede D-shaped steering wheel (STI logo)
  • 18” STI wheels
  • Black rear spoiler
  • Black badges (rear only)
  • Black roof antenna
  • Black door mirror covers
  • Matte carbon dash trim
  • Harman Kardon audio with 8 speakers
  • Power driver’s seat
  • Red Brembo brakes (manual only)

*Vehicle specification is taken from the base model WRX, with added limited-edition features.

“We don’t imagine the 18 limited-edition SAIGOs will sit on our showroom floors for long, especially considering the sharp RRP we were able to negotiate for them. SAIGO WRX owners will not only drive away in a special piece of Subaru history, they also receive a load of extras for the same price as a WRX Premium auto model,” Mr Dumper concludes.

The 18 owners of these limited-edition vehicles will receive their keys in a bespoke SAIGO WRX presentation box, which is unique to their vehicle.

Customers who are interested in securing a Subaru SAIGO WRX, should contact their local Authorised Subaru Centre.
