Subaru and RAL team up for the 23rd season of fun on the slopes

Skiers, snowboarders and sledders heading up to either of RAL’s ski fields will see the mountain’s team going about their business in their fleet of sign written Subaru SUVs.

To celebrate the 23rd year of Mt Ruapehu as our official vehicle partner, Subaru is providing exclusive offers to our mountain-going Subaru owners in 2021.

This winter, families can enjoy the newly branded Subaru Sledding Zone and slide their way down the racetrack from the Subaru blue start line.

Back by popular demand after last year’s Subaru Snow Week offering, Subaru owners can get a discounted caffeine fix by showing their Subaru keys at Mt Ruapehu cafes to receive $3 coffees in the peak season between August 1st and September 30th, 2021.

The full mountain opened over the weekend, and all the lifts and cafes on both ski fields - Tūroa and Whakapapa - were up and running.

The recently launched Greatest Outback of All Time (GOOAT) will also be on display at Whakapapa Ski area throughout July. The revolutionary 2021 Subaru Outback features EyeSight (our clever crash avoidance technology), increased 2,000kg braked towing capacity, and a tablet-like 11.6” touch screen infotainment system. Its All-Wheel Drive engineering prowess makes this agile GOOAT a popular choice for accessing ski slopes and it has set new sales records this year since the new generation launch in February.

Subaru’s National Marketing Manager Daile Stephens says: “We are privileged to have such a long-standing partnership with Ruapehu Alpine Lifts (RAL) and 2021 marks 23 years of Subaru being the mountain’s official vehicle partner.”

Skiers, snowboarders and sledders heading up to either of RAL’s ski fields will see the mountain’s team going about their business in their fleet of sign written Subaru SUVs, including the previously crowned New Zealand Car of the Year, the Forester; the stylish and compact XV; and the most capable ever 2021 Outback.

Mrs Stephens adds: “There’s many reasons why Subaru is the obvious vehicle choice for RAL. Our Kiwi adventure brand has an on-going synergy with the mountain, and we produce the perfect vehicles for the conditions the RAL team face daily. Our All-Wheel Drive (AWD) Subarus transport them up and down the mountain safely, whatever the weather conditions. And we know many mountain-goers are also Subaru owners, who understand AWD’s invisible advantages of having engine power delivered to all four wheels simultaneously, which gives them twice the grip capacity.”

“This year we wanted to celebrate our longstanding partnership by giving back to every Subaru driver heading up the mountain with $3 coffees and Subaru sleds to add to the enjoyment of this wonderful, scenic destination in the UNESCO dual-World-Heritage Tongariro National Park,” Mrs Stephens concludes.

Mt Ruapehu is an easy drive from New Zealand’s main centres of Auckland and Wellington and the popular locations of Taupō, Rotorua and Tauranga. Along with the Whakapapa and Tūroa ski fields, visitors can experience the epic views by sightseeing on the country's longest gondola, the Sky Waka.
