Subaru launches 2018 Legacy line-up

The 2020 Subaru Legacy 3.6RS.

Subaru’s Legacy introduces a smart, new, leather-upholstered 2.5i Premium model into its MY18 line-up and brings back the popular 3.6RS Premium, with both variants stacked with a whole range of interior, exterior and safety enhancements.

The new Subaru Legacy 2.5i Premium is priced at only $49,990 and shares the same top-notch specification as the Subaru Outback 2.5i Premium. The Legacy 3.6RS Premium, at $54,990 has the same high-level specifications at the Subaru Outback 3.6R Premium.

The Subaru Legacy large sedan variants are now perfectly positioned to provide classy, value-for-money, All-Wheel Drive replacements for the Australian 6-cylinder cars, which are being discontinued.

Subaru of New Zealand’s Managing Director Wallis Dumper says the fact that Australian production of Legacy’s main rivals - the Ford Falcon and Holden Commodore - has ceased, means the Subaru Legacy offers traditional buyers of these vehicles an appealing alternative.

“We see our two Legacy models as the ideal large sedans to take over some of the market share created by the demise of the big Aussie 6-cylinders. For starters, the Legacy 2.5i Premium and 3.6RS Premium have a better price point and for less money, buyers get more value, as both models come standard with our Subaru All-Wheel Drive engineering prowess and the latest version of our award-winning EyeSight® driver assist technology.”

“Since the Legacy sedan was launched in 2015, the majority of current generation models sold are the 6-cylinder Legacy 3.6RS. While the 2.5i Sport model was appreciated, customer feedback that we received was that a higher-spec 2.5-litre model with leather was preferred. We have taken this suggestion on board and now offer the Legacy 2.5i Premium for $49,990, which is one step up in terms of refinement.”

“But we know the hero model 3.6RS will really appeal to drivers considering change. The reality being they can now buy a 191kW powerful 6-cylinder, like a Calais, with All-Wheel Drive,” Mr Dumper says.

Both Legacy variants feature Subaru’s ground-breaking EyeSight® technology as standard, with the third generation version now including Lane Keep Assist. This feature can help prevent accidents, by assisting with steering control, if a driver unwittingly starts drifting into another lane.

The Legacy 2.5i Premium and 3.6RS Premium also add a suite of vision assist features and introduce LED steering responsive headlights. High Beam Assist has been upgraded to Adaptive Driving Beam and there is now a Front View Monitor and Side View Monitor in the two premium models.

The Subaru Legacy’s exterior takes on a smart new look, with the refreshed front end featuring a revised grille and front bumper design. The new wing mirror design with improved aerodynamics and noise reduction, includes stems shortened by 20mm and a new LED indicator that offers greater visibility to other vehicles.

The rugged and stylish new 18-inch alloy wheels designs feature across both variants.

The stylish interior tweaks include a classy, tablet-type central display, with the larger screen now 8-inch. The third generation head unit at the heart of the infotainment system enables enhanced smartphone connectivity, based on Apple CarPlay™ and Google Android Auto™ services, which are used to boost mobile connection functionality. Satellite Navigation with ‘Traffic’ powered by TomTom is a standard feature in both models.
