Subaru of New Zealand is the latest member to join the family of sponsors for the Ports of Auckland Round the Bays running event.

The fun run along Auckland’s waterfront is New Zealand’s largest mass participation sporting event, attracting more than 26,000 participants annually.

The Subaru brand, which is synonymous with the Kiwi outdoors lifestyle, has signed up to sponsor the Round the Bays for the next three years. The March 3, 2019 event will be the first time the automotive company provides support as the official vehicle partner.

Subaru of New Zealand Marketing Manager Daile Stephens is excited about the partnership and says there are obvious synergies between this event and Subaru.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with one of the world's largest fun runs. The spirit of Subaru is ‘do’ and it summarises our desire to see Kiwi families get out and enjoy all the adventures our country has to offer, enabled by our All-Wheel Drive vehicles. We see the Ports of Auckland Round the Bays as a fun, family-friendly event for people to get involved in and to train for in the New Year. Whether you’re new to running or returning to exercise, looking to improve on your current running capability, or want to get your kids more active, this event is ideal for runners or walkers of all abilities. The appeal of the event is how accessible it is, and it encourages everyone to be active, regardless of their level of fitness,” Mrs Stephens says.

Subaru will be working with a running coach to provide a training programme for different abilities in the lead up to the event. In addition, Subaru brand ambassadors, Art Green and Matilda Rice will be running for Team Subaru and will be available to meet and greet people on the Subaru stand at the finish line after the event in Vellenoweth Green, St Heliers. Subaru will also have their latest line-up of Subaru SUVs on display for participants to check out at their leisure over the day.

The event is a collaboration between the Auckland Joggers Club and Stuff - New Zealand's largest online news site - and has been running since 1972.

Stuff Event Manager, Henry Mclernon says: “We’re over the moon to have Subaru on board as one of our key event partners. We’re a duo with a shared passion to make it fun for families to get active and outdoors.”

The Ports of Auckland Round the Bays fun run is now in its 47th year and involves an 8.4km flat course from the Auckland CBD to St Heliers Bay. The start is located at Quay Street and the course continues along Auckland’s Waitemata Harbour to a spectacular finish along St Heliers Bay.

Ports of Auckland Round the Bays also supports charities working in our communities. Every year the organisers donate $60,000 to three charities and this year’s headline charities are Diabetes NZ Auckland, Sea Cleaners and Big Buddy Mentoring Trust. Participants can also get behind a charity of their choice and fundraise money towards the event’s collective goal of $200,000.

Earlybird tickets start from $70 for families, $25 for adults and $5 for children.
