Highlands Motorsport Park and Subaru of New Zealand have joined forces to bring some first class fun to the international Central Otago circuit, with six Subaru WRXs to become residents at Australasia’s leading motorsport facility.
Highlands Motorsport Park opened in 2013 and has since hosted motor sport events such as the Highlands 101, the Australian GT Championship and Highlands Festival of Speed. However, Highlands Motorsport Park is much more than an international-standard motor racing circuit – it’s a scenic and entertaining destination for everyone.
The partnership of The Subaru WRX Experience at Highlands is a first for Highlands and Subaru. This brand new product entering the tourism scene for 2016 will be targeting the group market of conference and incentive customers. Three different packages of high performance driving experiences will be offered, using up to six Subaru WRXs.
Highlands’ Chief Operating Officer Josie Spillane says Highlands is excited to welcome Subaru and their WRXs to the Highlands Motorsport Park.
“It’s a world first for both of us and we can’t wait to show the experience off. It’s already proving popular with bookings being locked in before we have even officially launched the experience.”

For Subaru of New Zealand it was a perfect fit to provide a stable of potent, powerful WRXs to tackle the challenging and spectacular Highlands track. Subaru’s iconic, performance models, the WRX and WRX STi come equipped with a 2.0 litre and 2.5 litre turbo boxer engine and the superior handling of Symmetrical All Wheel Drive.
Following years of international rallying success including three consecutive World Rally Championship (WRC) Manufacturer’s titles (1995-1997) Subaru has a long history of engineering and motorsport achievement. Subaru were part of the WRC for 19 years, and more recently has won the 2015 NZ Rally Championship. While winning championships, unique technologies were also being fine tuned. Subaru has used that performance know-how to help create the Subaru WRX.
Subaru of New Zealand Managing Director Wallis Dumper is thrilled to be the first manufacturer to supply a fleet of cars to Highlands Motorsport Park.

The Subaru WRX Experience - The Ultimate Experience – 4 hours
A four-hour All Wheel Drive high performance driving experience, which includes the use of up to six Subaru WRXs on Highlands’ international 4.1km circuit.
Included in the four-hour package, is entry into the National Motorsport Museum, access to the private GT lounge, and five unique action experiences on the circuit, including track laps on the full circuit and finishing with a hot lap with our professional instructor at the wheel.
Taster Experience – 2 hours
A two-hour All Wheel Drive high performance driving experience.
Included in the two-hour package, are experiences on the circuit that will provide plenty of action and unique experiences for the participants, including track laps on our A and C circuit and finishing with a hot lap with our professional instructor at the wheel.
Teaser Experience – 30 minutes
This package is available only for groups, participating in a minimum of two other Highlands activities. Your guests will be rotated through the experience in groups of ten and will participate in one high performance driving experience. (Minimum of 20 people)
