Subaru of New Zealand has started 2016 the way it left off its record-breaking 2015, as the Subaru dealer team has produced a January sales record, with 256 units registered.
Again this was led by the superstar-seller Subaru Outback with 135 units, which is only three units short of the previous monthly sales record set in September 2015. Outback was followed by XV Crossover, closely followed by Forester, followed by Legacy, WRX/STi and lastly Impreza.
Industry statistics reveal that Subaru of New Zealand is well ahead of market growth, which was 5.4% in the 2015 calendar year, with Subaru finishing up 25% ahead year-on-year. The industry is up 1.9% in January, while Subaru is also well ahead of its own benchmark, with January 2016 versus January 2015 resulting in a total sales increase of a phenomenal 112%.
With 20 registrations, January’s WRX and WRX STi sales have resulted in the best sales month in history since Subarus have been distributed in New Zealand, toppling records set in the early 2000s.
The Subaru XV Crossover has also had a resurgence with the strongest sales month in the last six months. The convention-breaking SUV is 37% ahead of January 2015, with Subaru’s new Thule Roof Box promotion attracting new buyers. The recently released 2016 XV Crossover models, have a variety of cosmetic and specification changes, which further add to their appeal.
Subaru of New Zealand managing director Wallis Dumper is understandably a happy man.
“We could not have asked for a better start to the year. It feels great to be carrying on the momentum of the Subaru dealer team finishing last year 25% ahead year on year. This was an all-time record for the 25 years the company has been the distributor of Subaru vehicles in New Zealand and it was a wonderful way to wrap up 2015,” he says.
Mr Dumper adds: “Hopefully our sales continue in the same upward trend for the rest of 2016 but regardless, we want to retain our unique kiwi “niche” status, so have no grand plans of growing too big, but at the same time to ignore industry growth is not an option in today’s business world, so it is fantastic to know that so many more Kiwis are enjoying their family summer adventures in our All Wheel Drive Subaru boxer engine beauties.”
