Subaru of New Zealand can now announce the news that turbocharged Outback fans have been waiting for – the pricing and specification of our most powerful SUV.
Pricing for the two models arriving on our shores in December will be:
o Outback XT Turbo $62,990*
o Outback XT Turbo Touring $67,990*
These all-new Subaru Outback XT variants both feature a 2.4-litre turbocharged Subaru Boxer engine, with 183kW and 350Nm of torque, equating to more horsepower. The XT models’ towing capabilities also reach new heights, ascending from the current 2.5 litre naturally aspirated Outback’s 2000kg limit, to an impressive 2,400kg braked towing capacity.
Subaru of New Zealand’s Managing Director Wallis Dumper says he is thrilled the brand now has Recommended Retail Prices for the Outback SUVs that will competently tow Kiwi drivers’ trailers, boats and other adventure toys.
“While the pricing reveal on the Outback XT answers the main question that all those who have pre-registered their interest in this new Subaru have been asking, the next important step is to secure yours before the new Clean Car Standard (CCS) kicks in.”
“We will have limited stock arriving in December and we urge anyone interested in purchasing an Outback XT Turbo to get in touch with their local Authorised Subaru Centre to put down a deposit. The CCS fee will be introduced on January 1st, 2023, and it will add thousands of dollars to this model.”
Mr Dumper continues: “We know many Outback drivers are business owners and can therefore work around the GST on the tax implications. However, we are also very aware that many private, passionate owners will want to avoid paying more tax than they need to, if it’s simply a matter of timing their purchase right to buy their Outback XT before the end of 2022.”
The Outback XT Touring premium variant is the most technologically advanced and luxurious Outback of all time. It features:

- Electric sunroof
- Heated steering wheel
- Harman Kardon® audio
- Rear power tail gate with hands-free badge sensor
- 11.6" tablet-like touch screen with satellite navigation
- A Driver Monitoring System (DMS) with facial recognition to detect driver drowsiness or distraction. The DMS can also recognise up to five drivers to personalise the driver's seat, wing mirror and air conditioning preferences.

The rugged Outback XT Turbo adventurer enables Kiwis to access the off-road destinations where they’d rather be. This stylish looker stands out with:
- Dark metallic 18" alloy wheels
- Black grille, wing mirrors and rear badging

- Green accents on the side badges
- Green stitching on the water repellent synthetic leather seats, centre console, steering wheel and gear shift boot.
- Dual function X-Mode with deep snow and deep mud settings, which allows the Outback XT Turbo to traverse almost any terrain.
